"That laugh, those eyes...Bill is back, and this time he’s got a body. Can’t run, can’t hide... he’s coming."
Bipper[]
Bipper is Dipper Pines from the show Gravity Falls, possessed by the psychotic dream demon, Bill Cipher.
He’s the AU version of what would've happened to Dipper if Mabel hadn't managed to get Bill out of Dipper's body as she did in ”Sock Opera," the first and only time Bill possessed Dipper.
Backstory[]
In the Season 2 episode "Sock Opera,” Dipper is on the verge of uncovering a great secret within a laptop that could lead him to unveiling the true identity of The Author.
Mabel is unable to help, due to her crushing on a local puppeteer. Dipper spends many nights staying up to decrypt the password on the laptop. This culminates in him encountering the dream demon, Bill Cipher, who he's met before. Bill offers Dipper a deal; he'll give Dipper a hint, but in exchange, Dipper needs to offer him “a favor.” Dipper rejects the offer.
Later in the day, the laptop initiates a data-erase after he enters too many incorrect passwords. Bill Cipher appears, communicating with Dipper through a monochrome version of the world, called The Mindscape. He leaves the laptop in color, pressuring Dipper. Bill offers him the correct password in exchange for a puppet.
Everyone loves puppets! And it looks to me that you’ve got a surplus!
Bill seems to be referring to the pile of Mabel’s puppets, as the pile glows blue against The Mindscape when he speaks. He further pressures Dipper into agreeing by asking what Mabel has done to help him lately, and referencing the timer, which has 30 seconds left.
Dipper agrees hastily, and asks what puppet Bill’s going to pick.
Eenie, meenie, miney, YOU!
Bill possesses Dipper, laughing maniacally. Dipper’s mind is separated from his body, trapped in The Mindscape. Bill causes self harm to Dipper, exploring his new body, and sees pain as a joke. His goal is to take Dipper's Journal, and he manipulates Mabel into a position where she’s forced to give it to him. In the canon, Bill is defeated by the twins, but in this AU, he was able to defeat everyone, and together they're created The Bad End Friends.
Appearance[]
Bipper looks mostly like Dipper Pines - around 5 ft tall, 12-13 years of age, with messy chestnut-brown hair. The one thing that sets his appearance apart from the original Dipper is his eyes: sclera of yellow coloration, with black slits for pupils (like Bill Cipher's). He was presented in the show with a priest suit, as seen in ”Sock Opera”. This is how he appears in most fan fiction/art.
He is often seen with blue fire in his hands, and he always seems to have a smile on his face. He sometimes puts both thumbs and index fingers into the shape of a triangle over his eye, symbolizing Bill Cipher. It’s always a pleasure to see him in a top hat; when he wears one, of course.
Personality[]

Bipper is maniacal and known to be somewhat of a masochist. He thinks pain is "hilarious,” demonstrated by the time he tumbled down the stairs backwards and stabbed himself with cutlery. He also drank “human soda, like a person!” by filling his mouth and pouring it over his eyes, then laughing, gurgling with it still in his mouth.
He severely overestimates - or is not aware of - the physical limits of the human body. He pushes Dipper's body to the limit when he is overpowered by his mosquito bites, sleep deprivation, and ticklish spots in “Sock Opera,” but this is still the case even with Bill controlling Dipper's body. The upside is that Bill, being the knowledgeable demon that he is, uses his intelligence to give Bipper the upper hand in stressful situations.
Behind The Scenes[]
Bipper originates from the show Gravity Falls and made his first and only appearance in Season 2 Episode 4, titled "Sock Opera". The episode was written by Shion Takeuchi and Alex Hirsch, Directed by Matt Braly and Joe Pitt, and was Storyboarded by Chris Houghton, Sunil Hall, and Vaughn Tada (Additional Material Written by Zach Paez). Bipper is also presumably voiced by Alex Hirsch (Voice of Bill Cipher and many others), however he can also be voiced by Jason Ritter (Voice of Dipper), since Bill is able to convince everyone that he's Dipper.
The first instance of Bipper being used in Bad End Friends content is currently unknown, however it's most likely tied to the creation of The Bad End Friends itself, a few (if not all) of the earliest instaces have been found on Tumblr, sometime around 2016, but as of now there is no conclusive origin point (It can also be entirely plausable that the original creator of The Bad End Friends has removed all trace of themself and their works from the internet, pressumably due to how wide-spread it has gotten).
If you want to watch Gravity Falls in its entirety, or support its creators, then there are a few options (Disclaimer, some of these options may be region locked depending on where you live):
Physical releases:
- Gravity Falls: The Complete Series (DVD/Blu-ray Box Set)
Song[]
The song Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing [https://youtu.be/hwyAkd5oOG4] by Set It Off, is given to Bipper because of the meaning behind the title A wolf in sheep's clothing is depicted as a dangerous creature hidden under a welcoming exterior or better yet a demon hidden under a welcoming human body.
Trivia[]
- Bipper is one of the main three Bad End Friends, alongside Beast Wirt and Ice Prince Finn
- Bipper is created when Dipper is 12. However, Birthday Mabel’s origin happens when it’s her 13th birthday. This means a year has passed for the twins, and Bipper’s current age is 13.
- Bipper’s name comes from the episode of his origin, when Mabel sees Dipper’s possessed body for the first time. She combines both of the entities’ names, exclaiming “Bill Dipper! Bipper!”
- It is speculated that Dipper's consciousness is forever haunting Bipper, with nothing to possess anymore, and he cannot rely on Mabel, as Mabel is now Birthday Mabel, so he can only watch as Bill wreaks havoc in his body.
- The original (canon) states that if Bipper had continued to exist, Bill would have forced Bipper to commit suicide.
